City Museum "Alte Burg" Wittenberge
The City Museum is located in the "Alte Burg", the oldest residence in the city. After the destruction of the Thirty Years' War, it was built as a white castle for the Edle Herren Gans zu Putlitz family in 1669. Nowadays, the City Museum "Alte Burg" invites visitors to explore the permanent and special exhibitions. They are dedicated to the history of the industrial city of Wittenberge, with focus on the sowing machine production in the Singer and Veritas sowing machine factories. The oldest structure of the city, the Stone Gate, is over 700 years old and serves as a branch of the museum. It contains a small exhibition about its own history "Caution! Old Tower" which recounts conflagrations, gangsters and the view of the tower climber across the city.
