Intertwined paths: In October of 1941, troops of the Wehrmacht army conquered the small Russian town of Yukhnov. The majority of the 5,000 inhabitants fled. Soon after, thousands of Russian prisoners of war from the battles of Bryansk and Vyazma would be detained here. One of the German soldiers passing through was Georg Lehmann, "Flak Gefreiter" and hobby geologist from Berlin-Tempelhof. He would not be kept from his hobby, not even during the war. Near Yukhnov, he notices a firestone which he pockets and brings back home. Somehow, the stone makes its way into the collection of Walter Bennhold, one of the co-founders of the Association for Local History Fürstenwalde, and through that into the geological section of the local museum. And the finder? A Georg Lehmann from Berlin-Tempelhof was buried in an anonymous grave on the military cemetery in Tula.  Killed in 1943 near Yasnaya Polyana, home of Tolstoy. Perhaps it is him.
